About the Artist

Ana Markovic is a Serbian painter whose work has been recognized with awards and exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her artistic journey spans a variety of media, but in recent years, her focus has centered around a single, ever-powerful theme: nature.

From landscapes ablaze with wildfire to quiet botanical studies and serene vistas, Ana’s paintings are a reflection of both beauty and urgency. Nature, for her, is more than subject matter — it is a lifeline. It heals, revives, and offers stillness in a noisy world. Yet in the face of climate change, it is also under threat. Her work serves as a tribute and a warning — a call to see, feel, and protect what is rapidly slipping away.

Nature takes the lead in every piece, not as a background, but as the protagonist — full of resilience, fragility, and meaning.

Ana’s latest body of work is created using mixed media on canvas, where oil paint takes the lead role. Layers of acrylic and charcoal form the foundation — sketch-like, raw, and spontaneous — before being enriched by oil’s depth, luminosity, and fluidity.

The result is a series of paintings that feel both grounded and atmospheric, built up in textures that echo the layered complexity of the natural world itself.

Ana Markovic was born in 1984 in Belgrade, Serbia. She attained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia.

She spent 2012-2013 as an Erasmus student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. In 2011 she was awarded at the Biennale of Student Drawing of Serbia.

She had 14 solo exhibitions so far and also participated in many group shows in Serbia and Austria. She took part in artist-in-residence programs in Belgium, Hungary, Austria, and Montenegro, workshops in Switzerland and Austria. Her works are part of art collections in Austria, Germany, the USA, Switzerland, and of course Serbia.

Ana is a member of the Serbian Art Association (ULUS). She lives and works in Belgrade, Serbia.
